Way back in time, lighthouses were a guide to ships, protecting them from danger and rocky coasts. Releasing such powerful light, they could be seen miles away. Today, although some lighthouses still function similarly, others are used primarily as landmarks or cool photo ops.
Light is a powerful guide.
Think about your daily routine. How much light do you need each day? How much can you accomplish in the dark in comparison to the light? Think about how often you “flip the switch.” If you’re like me, you probably never really thought about it.
As I reflected, I concluded that the amount of light we use depends on our preferences and the specific tasks at hand. For example, I prefer a calm ambiance with low lighting in the mornings to get my day started. Bright lights in the morning are one of my biggest pet peeves 🫣... BUT, as the day gets rolling, the need for more light increases because of all that I have to do. At work, I would be unproductive in the dark. What about you? Does your job require lots of light, or can you control the lighting as needed?
No matter our profession or preference, we all need light to be productive. And the same way that natural light illuminates and makes things visible so does spiritual light. John 8:12 says, “Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
This scripture not only gives us hope that as we follow Jesus, our paths will be enlightened, but it also should encourage us to pursue the light of LIFE! I have literally found the Word of God to be a flashlight. In some of the darkest times, when I felt totally hopeless and had NO IDEA where to turn, as I opened the Bible, my vision immediately became clearer. His Word not only brightens our path and gives us the direction we need in dark times but also shines through us. So bright that others can see and feel it from miles away, just like a lighthouse.
Ephesians 5: 8-10
“For at one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light (for the fruit of light is found in all that is good and right and true), and try to discern what is pleasing to the Lord.”
Are you pursuing the Light?

I have the same pet peeve! lol. But I couldn’t agree more. We all need some level of illumination. When the lights are on in the house, the people outside can see. That’s how bright the Word should be in our lives, enough for people to see a mile away!
