Waiting Well

For several months, I watched my daughter apply for jobs, go on numerous interviews, and not get called back. After each declined offer, she would reflect on how to become better while she waited. She did not just focus on improving her interview skills, but also on enhancing skills she would need for the type of job she was praying to obtain in the future.  As we prayed before and waited after each interview, I thought about how we handle our waiting periods.

There is a waiting period between the prophecy and the manifestation of the promise, between the prayer request and the answer, between the job application and the job offer, and between the first date and the marriage proposal.

Micah 7:7: “But as for me, I watch in hope for the Lord, I wait for God my Savior; my God will hear me.”

Waiting on God involves hope and confidence in Him. When we trust God, we can wait with an expectation of Him to act faithfully, listening intently for His answer. See, our prayers were not for just any job, but for the one God had for her. The right department, the right leader, and the right co-workers because these things matter in having job satisfaction.

Hebrews 6:15: “And so after waiting patiently, Abraham received what was promised.”

Patience is rewarded by God’s faithfulness. Just like the scripture says, after waiting patiently, Abraham received what God promised, so did my daughter. It was a newly created position in a department she had not considered, a leader she likes, co-workers who are mentors, and a higher salary than she expected. Won’t He do it!

Waiting is not fun or easy, but God is trustworthy and faithful.  Whatever you are waiting for today, wait well, God may just be creating something new for you.
