Come. Sit.

If there is any woman in the bible that I can relate to, it is Martha. When Jesus visited the home of Martha and her sister Mary, Martha got busy with cleaning and preparing, while Mary sat at His feet.
My days are busy, and my calendar is full. I have a "To Do" list for every area of my life. This includes ministry, the good work for the Lord. However, if I am not careful or intentional, the busyness will squeeze out my personal devotion time. Reducing it to a quick drive-by with the Lord.
In the story, Martha became frustrated with her sister because she felt like Mary should have been busy helping her. When she complained to Jesus, He acknowledged her busyness and encouraged her to prioritize doing the better thing – sitting with Him.
Luke 10:41-42: “Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed – or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”
At times, I find myself frustrated and easily irritated about things in life, and it is because I have not spent enough time sitting with Jesus. When we prioritize the better thing of sitting with Jesus, it puts everything else in perspective. Do we need to be involved in everything? Is there something we need to say "no" to doing? Have we made something that should be simple, complex?
Feeling frustrated or overwhelmed? Don’t try to increase your pace to get it all done. Choose to do the better thing – grab your journal, your bible, your favorite writing pen, and a cup of hot coffee or tea – come and sit.

This is my reminder that worshipping Jesus is always the best thing! Sometimes I can get wrapped up in all I “have” to do that I forget to talk to him about what I need to do. There is a difference. Following his lead turns work into rest. 💕
