The God of Multiplication

In a world that often feels limited by scarcity, there's a profound spiritual truth that resonates through the ages: God is a God who multiplies. This isn't just a theological concept; it's a transformative reality that can change how we view our resources, our potential, and our faith.
As a child, math was never one of my favorite subjects. In fact, as I got older, it was a struggle and as soon as I could stop taking math in college, I did lol! Even though numbers were not my thing, God has taught me a lot about "math" that I would have never learned in school or elsewhere.
One of the most powerful illustrations of God's multiplying power comes from a remarkable story in the Gospels – the feeding of the five thousand (I actually have a picture of this in my dining room!). Imagine the scene: a vast, hungry crowd gathered in a remote location, with nothing but five loaves of bread and two small fish. To the disciples, this seemed woefully inadequate. How could such a meager amount possibly feed thousands? On top of that, the people had been without food for days...
But Jesus saw something different. Where the disciples saw limitation, Jesus saw opportunity for miraculous multiplication.
In Matthew 14:13-21, we read how Jesus took those five loaves and two fish – a lunch that would barely satisfy a child – and transformed it into a feast that not only fed thousands but left twelve baskets of leftovers. Let that sink in for a moment. What seemed impossible became not just possible but abundantly more than anyone could have imagined.
What This Means for Us Today
This miracle isn't just a historical account; it's a powerful metaphor for how God works in our lives. When we bring our "little" to God – our limited resources, our small faith, our seemingly insignificant talents – He has the power to multiply them beyond our wildest dreams.
Consider these areas where God's multiplication can manifest:
- Financial Provision: Just as the loaves multiplied, God can stretch your resources in unexpected ways. Just a year ago, God took what little we had in our bank account and made it much more to keep the bills paid!
- Personal Talents: The skills and gifts you think are too small can become powerful instruments of change when surrendered to God. I remember getting a job that I didn't have to apply for!
- Spiritual Growth: A mustard seed of faith can move mountains and grow into something extraordinary. Stay, sit, dwell, and enjoy God's word!
We must keep these things in mind when considering all that God can do in our lives:
1. Recognize our limitations (He can do so much more than we can imagine)
2. Trust in God's unlimited potential (If you can think it, He can do beyond it)
3. Offer what we have, no matter how small (2 Kings 4 tells about the woman who only had a little oil - check it out!)
4. Expect miraculous multiplication (Never stop believing God....ever!)
Today, what are the "five loaves and two fish" in your life? What seems too small, too insignificant to make a difference? God is waiting to show you the power of multiplication. Your job is simple: bring what you have, place it in His hands, and watch what He can do.
Remember, with God, nothing is impossible. What looks like a little in your hands can become much in His.
